When I came to Macon, Georgia in 1980 as the only Adult Endocrinologist, I was asked by local pediatric physicians to treat their patients. I began treating children and realized that a time away from parents, where these children could meet other children with Diabetes was very emotionally important. So Camp Little Shot began to allow children from all different backgrounds have a safe fun time but also be educated about their disease. A typical summer camp would not allow children with Diabetes to attend because there would be no or limited medical services. The medical and non-medical staff at Camp Little Shot are highly qualified to handle any Diabetes emergency. No child has ever been denied the opportunity to attend camp because it is free and will continue to be free for these wonderful children.
