My name is Zack Hill and I grew up at Camp Little Shot. I was a camper for 4 years and have been a counselor since 1998. When I was 10 years old, I found out I had Type 1 diabetes. A few months after my diagnosis Dr. Bisat told me about Camp Little Shot, a camp for children with diabetes that Dr. Jones and Elizabeth started and it was free. I was really excited because I had never gone to camp before and I would be around kids going through the same thing I was going through. I had some really cool counselors – Michael Ford and Will Lanier as well as the other counselors Jim Tyner and Scott, and Will Rehburg. As a child I learned about how too many carbohydrates can affect your blood sugar and how it can affect your nervous system and you could lose your feet or other body parts down the road if you don’t take care of yourself. I learned a lot then and it has stayed with me as a counselor. At Camp Little Shot I’m away from a lot of temptations that diabetics face at home. I’m surrounded by a supportive camp family that encourages me to stay on track with my health. Dr. Jones and E as well as all the counselors and staff have taught me so many things at camp that they may be unaware of. Camp Little Shot is truly a family.
